These free golf tips are for everyone, from the merely curious to the expert golfer.

Be sure to read the entire article, then reread it to examine the parts that interest you the most.

I will start with golfing questions, my answers and tips.

1. Is Golf Really a Sport?

Golf is a sport like chess playing is a sport. Inflexible rules and set equipment.

In chess you have a chess board, chessmen and possibly a timer.

In golf you have score cards and your chessmen are golf balls, golf clubs and tees.

Some golfers believe basic golf equipment is also golf shoes, golf clothing, golf bags and do not forget a golf cart.

Chess can be played out doors, but seldom is. Golf needs to be played outdoors. Sure you can play at golf putting indoors, but it is almost impossible to find and get the use of a building big enough to play golf in.

Playing golf outside with a minimum of physical activity, just walking, stancing, possibly pulling around a golf bag and striking or hitting give a golf player some exercise.

So, yes golf is really a sport

Golfing Tip:

You will get out of any activity what you put into the activity.

It does not matter if you are playing chess, playing golf or riding a bull, put all of your focus, all of your concentration on that activity and enjoy it to the maximum you are capable of…

Golf Tips:

a. Do not spend a lot of money on golf equipment. Not until you find out if you even like golf.

b. If you must play golf as part of your business plan, then fully concentrate, completely focus on the golf game.

While your clients or contacts may appreciate a day on the golf course, they will always remember you and a rousing, challenging round of golf.

c. Keep your sense of humor. Unlike playing chess, where a chessman goes only here or there, sometimes that golf ball has a mind of its own.

In learning how to play golf or even just playing golf a sense of humor is vital.

3. Best Golf Clubs

I know that golf club manufactures and golf equipment affiliates would like me to tell you to buy their brand of golf clubs.

I can not:

a. How short or tall are you?
b. What kind of golf player are you?
c. How strong are your wrists, elbows, shoulders and your back?
d. What condition are your feet, ankles, knees and hips in?
e. What kind of ground are you playing on, hilly, rocky, sandy or wet?

One of the best golf players I know uses and carries 17 clubs made by 14 different companies.

Buy your first, second, third and so on, sets of golf clubs used.

a. With use you will find that one or more clubs will suit you. As you buy other sets of used golf clubs you will add to your golf clubs the ones that work for you. In the meantime you can use the other clubs to fill in where you need them.

b. Keep the best golf bags from the used sets and resell the other clubs and golf bags, the ones you do not like or the ones that just do not work for you.

c. If you are a name brand junkie and you really need matching clubs and clothes…

4. How to Holda Golf Club

First, why is it important how you hold or grip your golf club:

a. You do not want to take a swing with the golf club, have it fly out of your hands and injure someone.

b. You do not want to grip or hold the golf club so tightly that you exhaust your hands, wrists, arms and your muscles.

Besides, locking your muscles and hanging on with a death grip to the club means you will not have any flex to guide your swing to put that golf ball where you want.

Golf Tip for Beginners

Use a wrist loop, with a short, 6-8”, strap, and a Velcro strip.

Wrap the Velcro strip around the golf club shaft, below the hand grip and place the wrist loop around your wrist.

Make sure the strap is long enough to give you plenty of flex, but not so long it is going to slap you when you swing the golf club.

Now, hold the club, not too tight, not too loose…

Slowly practice a swing…

Is there any tightness or strain in your body? Shift your grip.

When you find a comfortable grip speed up your swing. Keep looking for tightness or strain.

When do you get rid of the safety strap?

Why would you want to?

5. How far away from the Golf Ball should I stand?

How tall are you, do you have a long upper body but short legs? Do you have long legs but a compact upper body?

Golf Tips

a. You should stand far enough from the golf ball that you are not leaning back or standing straight but hunched over. But not so far back that you are leaning way forward.

b. Practice your stance, practice swinging the golf club, practice hitting the ball…

In slow motion.

Gradually speeding up as you learn your own body and movements.

c. Do not stand up hill from the golf ball and attempt to swing down at it. You could end up on your head.

6. How to Swing a Golf Club

The entire purpose of the swing is to hit the golf ball, but…

a. Do not hurt yourself,
b. Do not swing so high you miss the ball,
c. Do not swing so low you dig up dirt,
d. Practice, practice and practice some more. Practice in slow motion.

If you are hurting or straining you are doing something wrong (for your body), shift your stance, shift your grip and focus on the game.

Golf Tips

A right handed golfer will swing to the left, a left handed golfer will swing to the right.

But what happens if a tree or shrub is in the way? Or the golfer has injured their ankle or knee? You will need to take the pressure off of the injured body part.

Practice swinging the golf club to the right and then to the left.

Always leave your options open, keep yourself flexible. You may have or develop a favorite stance, a favorite swing direction, but practice the other stances, the other swing direction.

7. How to Hit a Golf Ball

How close or far away do you want the golf ball to land?

I have seen golfers give a golf ball a hard tap and seen the golf balls travel a long ways.

I have seen golfers slam into a golf ball, the golf ball shoots out at tremendous speed, but the golf balls only travel as far as the golf balls that received the hard taps.

Golf Tips for Beginners Practice hitting or driving golf balls.

Aim for control and distance. Start out at connecting with the ball and moving it one foot, in the direction you want. Gradually increase the distance, if you lose control back up and begin again.

Keep tapping the ball further away. Soon you will be hitting the golf ball further away and finally you will be driving the ball to those far away cups.

Remain flexible, practice taps, hits and drives.

8. How to Drive a Golf Ball Straight

Practice #7 above, when you lose control back up and begin practicing again.

Golf Tip

A woman golfer, who was technically perfect, she loved the game, she was fully focused on the game, could not even come close to her target, on a long distance shot.

She had the distance, so her drive was correct, but the golf ball always landed about 75 feet to the side of the target or behind her.

I had her line up on the target, she was right handed and swung to her left, and then move her left foot forward. She realigned her stance and…

She drove the golf ball to with in one foot of the target.

In the successful position she could not easily see the target but she always came very close to the target.

If you are doing everything right but are consistently off on a long distance shot try this trick.

What works great for them, may not work for you. Your body, the way you move, the way you judge distance, even the way you feel, physically or mentally, on a particular day is unique to you.
